Cat and Dog Immune Past, Present and Future

The same herbs and foods that ancient physicians used for their incredible powers to not only cure but also prevent disease are still available to us today. Thanks to the methodical note keeping of ancient physicians and the oral traditions that passed these herbs and foods from one generation of healers to the next, we know what ingredients are most effective for boosting human and animal immune systems including the dog and cat immune systems.

In ancient times entire lives were spent testing and proving the usefulness of these herbs and foods. Today, randomized, peer-reviewed, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trials attest to the safety and effectiveness of these exact (ancient) ingredients. Primalix Immune is a proprietary product available only from Natural Wonder Pets and its authorized merchants and affiliates.

Natural Ingredients

A Trio of Herbs

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus). This herb has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Usage dates back to the late Han Dynasty (206 BC) when it was considered a “heaven class” herb because of its anti-aging properties associated with an extended life span.

The conclusion drawn by Western herbalists and medical researchers is that Astragalus is the ideal remedy for a biological system that might be immuno-compromised. And for dog immune purposes it strengthens many functions of the immune system, helps protect the liver from damage and has valuable properties that promote physical wellbeing.

Research scientists at the University of Maryland Medical Center are so impressed with Austragalus that they published the following statement:

“Astragalus may help protect the body from diseases such as cancer and diabetes. It is used to protect and support the immune system, for preventing colds and upper respiratory infections, to lower blood pressure, to treat diabetes, and to protect the liver.

Astragalus has antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, studies have shown that astragalus has antiviral properties and stimulates the immune system, suggesting that it is indeed effective at preventing colds.”

Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale). The highly revered Dr. Finley Ellingwood, MD, publisher of The American Materia Medica, Therapeutics and Pharmacognosy, recommended Dandelion Root for weakened immune disorders including chronic jaundice, autointoxication, rheumatism, blood disorders, chronic skin eruptions, chronic gastritis, and canker sores.

Dandelion Root, according to modern research, detoxifies the liver and decongests the gallbladder by increasing bile production and flow. It also stimulates cell metabolism by assisting the body to dump metabolic waste into the blood to be cleansed by the liver. This dog immune benefit alone can make an adult dog feel like a puppy and a cat feel like a kitten again.

Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is an ancient remedy that has been used worldwide for ailments from acne and asthma to depression, fever, kidney or liver problems, and cancer. Modern research has found that Licorice Root is beneficial to the endocrine system and liver as well as other organs.

The University of Maryland Medical Center states that Licorice Root has been used in treating a variety of illnesses ranging from the common cold to liver disease:

"This herb has long been valued as a demulcent (soothing, coating agent) and expectorant (rids phlegm and mucus from the respiratory tract) and continues to be used by health care professionals today to relieve respiratory ailments (such as allergies, bronchitis, colds, sore throats, and tuberculosis), stomach problems (including heartburn from reflux), inflammatory disorders, skin diseases, stress relief, and liver problems."

A Trio of Mushrooms

In the herbal world we refer to certain herbs or herbal combinations as adaptogens. An adaptogenic herb produces a nonspecific response in the body, such as an increase in the power of resistance against multiple stressors, be they physical (bodily injury), chemical (environmental pollution or drugs), or biological (invading pathogens).

Adaptogens have a normalizing influence on physiology. In other words, they find out what’s wrong and make it right. Our three mushrooms are perhaps the most well-researched and beneficial adaptogens on the planet for dog immune health and a good long life.

The good folks at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center have some interesting things to say about each of our medicinal mushrooms:

Maitake Mushroom (Grifola frondosa). The whole mushroom is used primarily as a dietary element, but extracts and supplements are sold as immune stimulants for patients with HIV or cancer. Maitake was shown by the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to enhance bone marrow colony formation, reduce doxorubicin toxicity in vitro, and to inhibit tumor metastasis. In a study of postmenopausal breast cancer patients, oral administration of Maitake extract was shown to have immunostimulatory as well as immune inhibitory effects.

Reishi Mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum). Naturopathic physicians use Reishi mushroom as an immune stimulant for patients with HIV or cancer. Extracts of Reishi can stimulate macrophages and alter the levels of TNF and interleukins. Reishi also inhibited platelet aggregation and improved lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men. In clinical studies, Reishi increased plasma antioxidant capacity and enhanced immune responses in advance-stage cancer patients.

Shiitake Mushroom (Lentinula edodes). Sloan-Kettering discuses Shiitake as an anticancer agent. Lentinan (1,3 Beta-D-glucan), a polysaccharide isolated from Shiitake, has been well studied and is thought responsible for its beneficial effects. It was shown to have anticancer effects in colon cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to suppress cytochrome P450 1A enzymes that are known to metabolize pro-carcinogens to active forms. Lentin, the protein component, has strong antifungal properties, inhibits proliferation of leukemic cells, and suppresses the activity of human immunodeficiency virus-1 reverse transcriptase.

Natural Dog Immune and Cat Immune "Optimization"

Dog immune and cat immune systems, when optimized, improve a pet's natural ability to defend against Allergies, Cold & Dog Flu, Fatigue, Inflammatory Disorders, Age-Related Disorders, Bacterial, Viral, Fungal and Parasitic Infections, and the list goes on.

Immune System Health

If there is one essential key to maintaining good health, it is the immune system. Cat and dog immune systems fight off attacks by bacteria and viruses, enable faster healing, and make infections less likely to develop.

The immune system has a difficult job to do. It must distinguish between the body’s healthy cells and dangerous invaders like cancer. It must also sort through trillions of microorganisms to identify those that may make the body sick from the rich fauna of useful microorganisms that are required for our bodies to function normally.

Complications & Conventional Medicine

An unbalanced immune system is associated with a wide range of diseases including colds and influenza, HIV or Aids, infection from parasites or yeast, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and cancer.

Conventional medicine is reactive, waiting for symptoms to develop before treating. While conventional medicine agrees that a compromised immune system is often the underlying cause of illness, there isn't much help available from prescription drugs to boost the immune system in a natural way.

History of Healing

If you look back in history you will find a very different approach to health and healing. Thousands of years ago physicians relied on observing animals and methodically testing different herbs and plants in the environment in order to find not only tonics for ailments and illnesses but also food that could be eaten to prevent the development of illness by boosting the immune system.

These ancient Physicians were known as Ayurvedic physicians. Ayurveda comes from Ayur meaning “life” and Veda meaning “science” – the science of life. In the 6,000 years of written Indian history we find the Ayurvedic treatise codified from antiquity by the Enlightened sage Patanjali about 150 years BC. Ayurvedic physicians were able to perform a wide range of medical procedures including prosthetic surgery, cosmetic surgery, cesarean section, and even brain surgery.
