Dog Dental Problems?

We have a natural defense to the most common pet health problem in America. Dog dental problems are gone with DentaSure® No-Alcohol Spray or Gel. Our DentaSure® whitens teeth, removes tartar and plaque, rescues swollen gums, aids bad breath and is 100% natural.

"Oral disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem for pets," says Dr. Henry Childers, DVM, Past President of the AVMA. "Just as the public has come to realize that their own oral health is linked to their overall health, veterinarians want people to understand that dental health care is essential to maintaining the overall health and well-being of the family pet."

Oral disease including periodontal inflammation and infection is known as the silent killer because it is linked to so many serious problems in our cats and dogs. Poor dental care can lead to heart disease, stroke, kidney and liver disease, blindness, oral cancer, and other life-threatening diseases.  Furthermore, dog dental disease is painful and reduces your dog's quality of life.

Ingredients

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) is a powerful antioxidant compound that has a range of uses in humans and animals alike. Grapefruit seed extract is effective in killing harmful oral bacteria, removing tooth plaque and tartar, and relieving a variety of gum disorders and bad breath. This versatile compound has been used for colds, strep throat, cold sores, digestive upset, and a range of parasitic and bacterial infections. GSE raises the pH of the body, which aids in overall health because disease-causing microforms like fungi, bacteria, and viruses die in an alkaline oxygenated environment.

Grape Seed Extract is a flavonoid that strengthens and protects living tissue. This powerful ingredient can fortify teeth and gums, strengthen blood vessels and aid in circulation. Grape seed extract inhibits oral sugar metabolism and kills bacteria that cause tooth decay to grow. It can also improve the capacity of cells to survive after exposure to DNA damaging radiation, and it can extend the life of cells.

Note: Grapes and raisins are harmful to dogs. However, the grape seed is an entirely different chemical compound than the pulp and is not only harmless to dogs but very beneficial for both dog dental care and general wellness.

Propolis Extract is a fascinating mixture that is gathered by honey bees. Propolis fights harmful bacteria but doesn't hurt the friendly bacteria in the body. The antimicrobial properties of Propolis have been proven to prevent cavities and protect against tooth decay as well as other forms of oral disease. Those who take propolis regularly have a tendency to avoid colds and seem to develop a natural immunity to common viruses and flu.

Pure Stevia is a plant that doesn't contain any sugar or calories but tastes sweet. Stevia won't raise blood-sugar so it is widely used in dog foods to make them taste better without putting the dog at risk. Stevia improves insulin sensitivity and helps the production of insulin in diabetic test subjects. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria, including the ones that cause gum disease and tooth decay, so it is a popular dog dental care ingredient.

Xanthan Gum is used in our Gel formula to create a gel texture. Xanthan gum is completely natural, kosher, vegan, and gluten-free.

Why do Modern Pets Suffer from Dental Disease?

Before dogs and cats were domesticated and began to live with people and eat what people eat, their diet consisted of about 65% protein, 30% fat, and 5% teeth-cleaning byproducts such as bone and cartilage. Eating and teeth cleaning went hand in hand as dogs and cats scrubbed away tartar while they ate their meals.

As modern pets transitioned to eating human leftovers and then to kibble and wet food diets,  the tooth cleaning aspect of their meals was lost. Modern solutions like chew toys and rawhide just don't address the problem like nature used to.

Cats rarely engage with chew toys and many dogs are less than enthusiastic about them. Even when dogs do chew dutifully, chew toys can't reach the places that cartilage and bone used to. For dog breeds that tend to have teeth that don't meet up correctly, any amount of chewing will be unlikely to get rid of all the tartar and properly stimulate the gums.

What Veterinarians Say

Once dental disease has progressed veterinarians suggest a dental cleaning under anesthesia to remove the plaque and tartar. Not only are such cleanings expensive, but they have considerable risks as dogs must go under anesthesia. Some dogs never quite recover from anesthetic drugs. Furthermore, the plague that is released into your dog’s system during the cleaning can have other negative consequences.

Veterinarians agree that a preventative cat or dog dental care plan can prevent dental disease and costly and risky dental cleanings. Most veterinarians suggest brushing your dog or cat's teeth to remove the plaque and stimulate the gums.

Brushing is good, but unfortunately, most dogs and cats don't respond well to having their teeth brushed. Having a stick with brushes forced into the mouth and rubbed around is about the most unnatural thing imaginable for your dog or cat. Even if your dog or cat is unusually compliant, it is extremely difficult to access all the different parts of your dog's mouth and thoroughly remove plaque and tartar with a toothbrush.
